University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Adult Sickle Cell Clinic

The UPMC Adult Sickle Cell Clinic provides ongoing medical and psychosocial care coordination for individuals age 21 or older that have been diagnosed with sickle cell disease (SCD).

While not limited to the services seen here, the primary services our team provides include:

  • Specialized, direct medical management of SCD and/or coordination of medical care with primary care physicians
  • Consultation with physicians in the emergency departments throughout UPMC Health System or in other medical facilities in western Pennsylvania.
  • Identification and coordination of psychosocial needs
  • Assistance with managed care needs
  • Provision of SCD educational training for medical professionals and consumers
  • Facilitation of monthly SCD support groups
  • Referrals to appropriate service providers

These services, along with the advocacy groups and individuals seen below, offer the adult SCD patient a comprehensive and extensive array of support and care to better manage the day-to-day challenges of SCD.

The Adult Sickle Cell Clinic is held every Wednesday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  The Clinic is located on the second floor inside the Hillman Cancer Center at 5115 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA.

An SCD patient support group, the Sickle Cell Advocacy Team (S.C.A.T.), holds support meetings at the Hillman Cancer Center for SCD patients and family members alike.  Please call 412.692.2534 for dates and times.
